BRADSHAW Dorothy

Dorothy Jean Lillimur Bradshaw was the Matron at Gnowangerup Hospital prior to her marriage to Elwerthy "Peb" Flanagan in 1927.
Due to Peb’s service in WW1 he had financial assistance to purchase a farm at the Pallinup Soldier Settlement which he took up prior to his marriage.
Peb had a team of Clydesdale horses, but unusually for an ex-Light Horse soldier he did not own a riding horse. Times were hard, and much needed extra cash was earned through keeping pigs which were Peb’s responsibility.
Dorothy was in charge of the cows, she sent cream via Mr. Greenslade who owned the mail run from Katanning to Broomehill. The cream was transported by large cans which were sent to the butter factory in Katanning. To make ends meet Peb also worked with Donald Stewart, (the son of Tommy Stewart Sern 2409) on contract farm labouring.
Peb and Dorothy had two daughters Elizabeth Mary (known as Beth) and Dorothy May known as May.
Beth married Allan H. (Henry A.) Quinlan in 1948 and moved to East of Mt Barker, she had 8 children.
May travelled Australia and the world nursing, including a position at Harefield Hospital in England.
In about 1957 Peb and Dorothy sold Lone Pine and moved to Katanning.
May then accompanied them on trips overseas and interstate.
Peb died on 24 July 1964, and was buried at the Katanning Cemetery (Grave No. 399).
In 1970 Dorothy moved to Perth to be with May, and often accompanied her to nursing postings in country areas.
